G,day Paul thought you might like to have a look at these sites concerning memory
http://memory-masters.com/2009/10/08/the-wardrobe-
method
So you have created a virtual world in your minds eye , that sound interesting i would like to know more.
I understand the way you do it by linking each of the items to each other in a story i have also done this to remember random objects.
The only draw back is that if you wanted to know what the sixth item was you would have to replay your story and recount them as you recall them, with alist you know immediately what that item is and it is also easy to know when you have left something out.
When i was first learning to improve my memory ( still am i'm still an infant really) i had a family member give me a list of twenty objects verbally they wrote them down so they wouldn't forget LOL
I was able to recall them 1-20 and backwards again also they could ask what was no 2 and i could tell them i was even able to tell them which ones they had missed.
With the limking method that would of been harder to do.
Yes i would welcome this guy from Africa to join us. Have you heard from him yet?

Like you im interested in learning for self knowledge like all presidents of a particular country birth death etc
Geography and of course remembering cards Not for gambling purposes but for party tricks( i dont gamble)
Ive just been learning about the journey system. Which is using points on trips that you know well and using them as pegs i believe it is a good system for remembering long lists
Today have been working on the major sytem numbers 1-100 just creating pictures to represent those nos using phonetics.
How do i do it...
Lets say i wanted to remember a presidents name like woodrow wilson i would convert his name to a sound alike picture for me it would be a piece of wood rowing across a lake with a will.Once i have a vivid picture of it i would then peg it to one of my lists, such as my major list at the appropriate no. for this ill just choose no 1 which is tie. I would then see my self placing this tie on the piece of wood i would exaggerate it lets say bu stapling it may be i stapled my finger also.
So now for me to remember Woodrow wison no 1 brings to me a tie which bring to me the picture of the wood etc which translates to woodrow wilson
I hope that helps.
Ps these pegs that i'm creating havn't been utilized as yet.Ive spent the last three years doing night shift and feeling to tired to concentrate but have now changed shifts and once again am feeling alive and wish to develop my memory.

Hi , anyone interested in learning the 'Memory Peg System?'

Once learned, you will be able to remember things like, packs of cards, lists of anything, numbers(even 100 digit numbers), the calender is suprisingly easy! In fact i know the calender from 1750-3000, go on- give it a go, will take less than 4 hours(my 9 year old girl did it in that time) to learn the system, and from there you will be able to go it alone. 4 Hours! Work at your own pace, could learn it in one lesson or spread it.

Hi all. did a memory course back in 70's, has it improved/changed much? , are there better methods now?
I still use it - but if theres better out there, why not change (or would changing be confusing?)
